Sustainable Finance, Sustainability Measurement and Risk: A Holistic Perspective
- In sustainable finance, the sustainability of an investment is considered alongside the usual categories of risk and return. Its measurement poses a number of challenges.
- This sustainability dimension can have a long-term impact on the financial characteristics of an investment, or it can be considered as a separate dimension that cannot be offset against the financial dimension.
- There are many potential relationships between the sustainability dimension and different risks.
- Greenwashing, i.e. the misrepresentation of true sustainability, also carries certain risks for the companies and investors involved.
